Jeff Duncan-Andrade, PhD on Education "I teach my neighbors' kids"

Jeff Duncan uses the connection of begin part of the same neighborhood as a bridge that he then can incorporate into the lessons. It also gives the kids a understanding bond that can at times only been known if you are going through something similar. He also talks about triggers from his mind that he goes through and techniques that hes developed to cope with. Then he makes a connection with the kids that are going through the sames things but may not have the knowledge in cope with what they see and also be worried about how they are doing in school which can be stressful for the student. When Duncan quoted Ablert Einstein "The definition of insanity is going over and over again and expecting a different result" made a good connection to how these children living in low wage urban neighborhoods that have to push truth completing all material without at least taking a moment to acknowledge or find away in connecting it back into the material in complete insanity. Especially since people believe that Urban schools aren't failing to do what they were design to do. Why is because the believe that these schools aren't dramatically bad which is the appoint of view. The question is when do you acknowledge it and actually make a change? When is it enough? The good teachers can see and care about the students and try to do something about it. What they the board of education does is tinker around the edges to make it good for the purpose by the constitution of California is to make it good enough to prepare young people for their proper station in life, which is what they are exactly doing. What is the station for each child is for what they were born into which is why the percentage of students are allowed to exit their family level and move up instead of stay the same. Another good point made by Duncan is starting the material where its most important instead of going in a chronological order. Involving student experience so that the can make a connect to the material which will help them in take it instead of absorbing something that has no real meaning to the student. Now stop and think about it if someone from way back when was and published material and proof that child in the curriculum is more beneficial then why hasn't it changed yet? Why has it stayed in common curriculum has stayed exactly the same through out the years not moved forward when the rest of the world has. Think about it we now have the whole world in our hand at just a finger tip yet nothing has changed in educations part.
